One of the new features introduced with Rise of the Hutt Cartel is the Seeker Droid. These droids are used to uncover hidden things on several planets throughout the Galaxy, and mysterious treasures await those brave and intrepid enough to track them down; there is also a nefarious plot afoot, and the fate of the galaxy may rely on your ability to use these droids efficiently!
For a general overview of how Seeker Droids work, please hit the jump. Be advised that for the purposes of the overview, it is from an Imperial perspective. I will update the guide in the future to reflect the Republic point of view as well. Also, there are mild spoilers contained in the article; you have been warned.
The location to start this quest is the same as the Macrobinocular quest. Visit the Drill Observation Ring on Makeb, at -2453, 211.
The Seeds of Rage
Darth Acina of the Dark Council contacts the player, and informs them that the Dread Masters are up to no good, once again. They have violated an Imperial stronghold and stolen powers they cannot control. The player is then tasked with reclaiming then.
You are then instructed to meet Darth Acina on Dromund Kaas. Darth Acina was chosen by the Emperor himself to watch over a warehouse of powerful technology known as the Arcanum. After corrupting one of the guards at the facility, the Dread Masters made off with the Seeds of Rage. These seeds have the power to cause a powerful and irreversable bouts of irrationality and violence. Worst of all, the effects are permanent. The Dread Masters have scattered these all throughout the Galaxy in an attempt to drive entire populations mad.
It's up to you to recover the Seeds and foil the plot of the nefarious Dread Masters. Of course, once they are recovered, the Empire will use them as they see fit; they would just prefer that they be the ones to decide how they are used.
Seeker Droids are able to tunnel deep into the dirt, and safely recover and store the Seeds. Unfortunately, any creature that happens to be nearby when this occurs will be driven into a frenzy and attack you. There are also secret treasures buried beneath the soil that the droids can also locate. Areas where the seeds are located have become severely corrupted and require the utmost caution. The area I visited for the purposes of this guide was on Taris, but the area set aside for the Seed featured level 53 creatures, as well as a few champions with more than 200k health. So, caution is advised!
Once you accept the quest, you'll receive your Seeker Droid, as well as a few items with the ability to boost it's post-dig signal detection. This just makes it easier to find a particular site; and you can also purchase these from the GSI vendors on Nar Shaddaa as well as the one featured on Makeb.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based in the Star Wars universe. Developed by BioWare Austin and a supplemental team at BioWare Edmonton, the game was first announced on October 21, 2008, at an invitation-only press event. The video game was released for the Microsoft Windows platform on December 20, 2011 in North America and part of Europe.
Once you arrive at the predetermined area (for the purposes of this guide, I was at The Sinking City on Taris), a message will appear informing you that "Your Seeker Droid detects something in this area". After that, it's up to you to run around with the droid and search the area for the seed. As mentioned previously, you will encounter enemies in the area, and they are approximately level 53, so make sure you're careful. The coloration of the droids scanning beam will indicate how close you are to the target. Red means it's not nearby, yellow means you've gotten closer, and green is a successful scan. Also, once you've finished a scan, a ring will appear around your character. The color indicates your proximity to an item, and the direction towards which the color is pointing indicates where you should head next. Yellow means that it's scanning; Red means that there are none in the immediate area; and Green means to head in that direction a short distance.
That's basically it; once you've recovered the Seed, you've still got several places in the Galaxy left to travel, and there are even other treasures and secrets to be discovered using the Seeker Droid. As a final note, if you've already received a pair of Macrobinoculars, covered in a separate guide here, you can use them in the vicinity to help detect the best places to dig.
I plan to do an in-depth guide for each spot, as well as the various treasures to be obtained from using the droid in the near future; this is just to give you folks an overview of what you can expect. As always, thanks for reading and happy hunting!
